Sacrificing their youth and freedom, soldiers voluntarily give up the pleasures of a civilian to take on the responsibility as defenders of our beloved nation upon their shoulders.
They spend months if not years undergoing training and serving in missions abroad and locally. They endure the toughest of training, survive the most hostile of environments and are even ready to die for the greater good.
However, no matter how tough and strong soldiers are, they are only human; they have a limit and a breaking point. The thing that differentiates soldiers from the norm is the determination to go beyond their limits and overcome their breaking point.
And this is what this whole project is about: the reason behind that determination and grit.
"My dad is an enormous inspiration! He is a police officer and has served the nation long and well. Ever since I was a kid, I have always dreamt of following his footsteps. Now that I am in the army, I am finally doing so albeit a little differently. I keep his photo by my side to remind me the reason I chose this life, I sometime do require a little reminding."
I am the first and only military doctor from my village. When I first got accepted into the army to pursue my degree in medicine, there was an uproar in the village. Everyone was so psyched for me that an enormous kenduri was held in my honor and it lasted for days. That is how proud my village is of me.
Hence, the thought of disappointing them is unimaginable. And that is my reason. Come what may, I'll strive and overcome all odds.
"When the going gets rough, the only thing keeping me going is the faint memories of the comforts of home and the hopes of one day returning to it. A soft comfy bed you could drown in, heavenly home cooked food and a mother's love... And to truly enjoy the comforts of home, one has to be guilt free, at peace even. Therefore, I do not quit nor do I ever give up."
In the hottest day & darkest night,
My hope shines ever bright.
I could be in the deepest plight,
But I will definitely be alright,
As long as you are by my side,
My beloved Dunhill light.
"My significant other is one of the very few things I hold dear. She is my reason if not the only reason."
"My reason is my brothers in arms. They watch my back as I watch theirs. With them by my side, we can face anything. It is us against the world."
"Looking good is all that matters. I live to look good and look good to live."
"I understand that the training in the army is rigorous and second to none. I persevere so that I may one day walk proudly with my chest leading the way instead of my tummy. In the future, I want to be able to hug my pregnant wife without a collision occurring."
